Apple has released Pro Apps Uncompressed 4:2:2 Codec v1.0.2, a small 447KB package that installs software for viewing uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit 4:2:2 video in video apps installed on OS X 10.9.

Support document DL1719 reveals that Pro Apps Uncompressed 4:2:2 Codec v1.0.2 “enables viewing of uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit 4:2:2 video in newer video applications on OS X Mavericks.”

As far as I’m aware, 4:2:2 refers to color sampling, whereas 10-bit refers to bit depth. Higher rates of color sampling combined with higher bit depth result in more accurate color and more total colors in the video signal.

Under System Requirements, Apple lists only OS X 10.9+, meaning this update targets Mavericks computers exclusively. Supported languages include English, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese.
