A pre-release version of OS X 10.10 ahead of debut

Apple has just released the Golden Master candidate of OS X Yosemite, the company’s upcoming desktop OS for Mac users worldwide.

Developers are being greeted with a notice that states, “This is a pre-release version of OS X Yosemite. Download from the Mac App Store using your download code or use Software Update to download the latest release.”

GM builds are usually seeded right before the Final release, but this doesn’t act as a confirmation that the finished version is just around the corner. Chances are there are still a lot of bugs to iron out, so don’t get your hopes up for OS X 10.10 to roll out tomorrow, or the next day.

Apple is said to be planning an event for October, during which it will not only release Yosemite, but also a new Mac and a new iPad. The release notes for Yosemite GM Build are also not immediately available, so we’re currently in the dark as far as changes go.

Alongside Yosemite GM, Apple today seeded Xcode 6.1 GM and OS X Server 4.0 Developer Preview. Neither of these pieces of software can be obtained by the general population. To access these builds, you need a paid developer subscription with Apple. Visit the Mac Dev Center to grab Yosemite GM Candidate now if you’re a developer.
