Alongside the first Yosemite beta with Photos for OS X, Apple this week offers OS X Server 4.1 Preview 14S1031m, a new beta for users looking to employ the benefits of OS X Server with iOS 8.2 later this year.

“OS X Server 4.1 Preview 14S1031m (app version 3.7) is now available for testing. This version is designed for OS X Yosemite,” Apple says. Developers can grab the bits over at the Mac Dev Center.

The new Server Preview requires OS X 10.10.3 and at least 2 GB of RAM. Users further require at least 10 GB of available disk space to install the basic configuration, or 50 GB if Caching Server is used.

In this beta, Profile Manager now supports new features, MDM commands, and payloads under iOS 8.2, an upcoming software update for iPhone and iPads that Apple is currently testing internally, and is also offering to registered developers.

Build 14S1031m includes a Caching Server configuration option to output DNS TXT records in Windows format, and can export user and group accounts to a file. The usual bag of fixes is in there as well.

According to those familiar with the software, enrolling a device with a placeholder via the user portal doesn’t currently work. Apple provides a workaround in the release notes: “delete the device placeholder using Profile Manager admin and reenrolling the device.”
