New driver pack targets Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks

This week, Apple has rolled out a new driver package for users of three separate OS X versions, none of which is Yosemite (the newest Mac OS available). The drivers are for owners of a Lexmark printer / scanner.

According to the Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc., “This update installs the latest software for your Lexmark printer or scanner.” The Mac maker directs customers to a support document where printing and scanning software for OS X is detailed. There, you can also see the full list of printing and scanning software available for all OS X versions currently in circulation.

The company generally delivers these third-party software updates for scanners and printers via the Mac App Store’s Software Update tab, but you can also grab it manually from Apple Support Downloads or from Softpedia at this handy link: Download Lexmark Printer Driver 3.0.

“To set up your printer or scanner, just connect it to your Mac. If software is needed and available, OS X automatically downloads and installs it,” Apple says.

There are currently more than 200 Lexmark printers / scanners supported by OS X. Apple most likely included these enhancements with the 10.10.2 update delivered to Yosemite customers earlier this week, making it unnecessary for the company to add Yosemite to the list of supported OSes for Lexmark Printer Driver 3.0.

However, for those using a new-generation Lexmark device who don’t want to install 10.10.2, it would have made perfect sense to support Yosemite as well.
