Apple today added eight new major adopters of its payment service that allows customers to purchase stuff without pulling out the plastic. These adopters include both banks and card issuers.

The Mac maker has yet to update the support document that lists all the Apple Pay participating issuers, but according to this report, starting today the payment service has been adopted by the following banks and issuers: Security Service Federal Credit Union, Consumers Credit Union, Virginia Credit Union, Cyprus Federal Credit Union, Fairwinds Credit Union, Mountain America Credit Union, Partners Federal Credit Union, and Customers Bank.

Apple’s contactless payment service works with iPhone 6 via Touch ID and NFC, with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 through Passbook integration of credit and debit cards, and soon it will also work on the Apple Watch with a single button-press. The Mac makers in Cupertino say that the service now works with most of the major credit and debit cards from the top banks in the United States.

According to the aforementioned support document (which gets updated on a regular basis whenever someone new is added to the list of supporters), “We're working with more banks to support Apple Pay. If you don't see your bank below, check back soon.”

Studies conducted at the end of 2014 showed that Apple Pay was responsible for as many as 1% of all contactless transactions carried out in the U.S. This, less than two months since launch.
