New security update is recommended for all OS X users

Apple has released Security Update 2013-003, a free download which contains patches for OS X versions 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Security Update 2013-003 (Mountain Lion) was launched minutes ago, and Apple has yet to release an official advisory detailing the patches contained in the installer packages.

So far, the update seems to have been released for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Snow Leopard, including Client and Server installations.

According to the tech note accompanying the release, “Security Update 2013-003 is recommended for all users and improves the security of Mac OS X.”

Under the System Requirements for Security Update 2013-003 (Mountain Lion), Apple lists OS X 10.8.4, which means at least one critical vulnerability has been discovered in the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system.

The installer is supported in dozens of different languages and is available as a free download via Software Update (through the Mac App Store) or as a manual download at the link below.
