Brazilian sources are reporting that Apple has begun slashing prices for several iPhone configurations in the country, including the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. The cuts are not mind boggling, but they’re nothing to sneeze at either.

MacRumors cites a discovery by Brazil’s O Globo saying that Apple has slashed the pricing for the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S in the country.

An 8 GB iPhone 4 used to retail for R$ 1,499 (around US $740), but Brazilian customers can now grab one contract-free for just R$ 1,099 (which translates into US $544). The 16 GB iPhone 4S is also getting a price cut, from R$ 1,999 (US$989) to R$ 1,699 (US$840), according to the report.

For comparison, US customers pay only $450 for the factory-unlocked version of the iPhone 4, and 100 bucks extra for the 4S version.
