On its Developer portal, Apple informs application sellers that 74% of devices (including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch) are now using iOS 7.

“As measured by the App Store during a 7-day period ending December 1, 2013 [...] 74% of devices are using iOS 7,” according to Apple.

The statistic may not mean much to the average customer, but it’s invaluable to the developer community. Application sellers need to carefully allocate development resources to specific iOS versions, as well as code up features that take advantage of new technologies, such as those in iOS 7.

The data is also a good indication of the huge difference between the fragmentation in the iOS and Android ecosystems.

Metrics firm Fiksu was the first to disclose similar figures earlier this week, so Apple’s data is simply acting as official confirmation from the mother ship.
