Apple Store Genius Bars in the United States have been instructed to replace broken White iPhone 4 (16GB) models with iPhone 4S counterparts, as the company deals with an atypical inventory shortage.

US customers seeking a replacement iPhone 4 with 16GB of storage and a white paint job are in luck, as they’ll be able to walk out of their local Apple Retail Store with a refurbished, White iPhone 4S with 16GB storage capacity at no extra charge, according to reports.

As Apple fans should already know, refurbished iPhones, Macs, iPads etc. are of the same quality as off-the-shelf products.

Those entitled to get a free replacement are basically being upgraded to a more powerful processor, the Siri personal assistant (exclusive to iPhone 4S customers), and an 8 megapixel camera with advanced optics (such as image stabilization).
