Apple Needs a Better App Store RSS Feed

Services like AppShopper would be put out of commission

There’s no doubt Apple has hit the jackpot with its app store model, but it’s high time the company started thinking about adding one greatly missed feature.

I’m talking about a proper RSS feed. Not the one they’re offering right now (which mostly serves up new apps). A proper one that allows you to get a bird’s eye view of incremental updates, price drops, special offers, and so on.

What I’m saying is that they could just throw in a few more options with that (admittedly nice) RSS generator they have, and services like AppGratis and AppShopper would be out of their hair forever.

I mean, who needs to know that the top 10 free apps today are the same top 10 free apps from last week? I don’t need an RSS feed for that. Or “which are the top paid apps.”

I can just see the list on the front page of the iTunes Store, I don’t need a new entry in my already clogged-up RSS app.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I think it would be nice to have the tools to make our own app discovery, including fresh updates to existing apps (that a user might not have installed on their phone), special offers, and everything in between.

Care to collectively shout this one out loud in the comments? I’m curious who’s with me.
