Apple has discovered that its newest version of OS X Mavericks is having trouble maintaining a proper working L2TP VPN connection under Server 3.0.1. The computer giant is now offering a fix.

Available as a free download and weighing in at just 1.6MB, VPN Update for Mavericks Server is a small patch which “fixes an issue that could prevent L2TP VPN connections from working with OS X Server,” according to the Mac maker.

A KB article (TS5313) is then offered to customers who want to learn more about this particular behavior.

There, Apple explains that “With OS X Server (Mavericks), the VPN service may no longer accept L2TP connections. This can happen if the client and server are behind different network address translation (NAT) gateways.”

The company says the only fix is to Update to OS X Mavericks v10.9.1, then install the VPN Update for OS X Server. Your server installation must be 3.0.1, according to the specs page.

Apple also asks users to note that VPN Update for Mavericks Server will only install after you set up services using the Server app. Download VPN Update for Mavericks Server at the supplied link and fix your connectivity issues today.
