Alongside the new MacBook Airs and Mac Pro, Apple yesterday also introduced some redesigned AirPort Extremes and AirPort Time Capsules featuring 802.11ac Wi-Fi with up to three times faster performance than the previous-generation models.

Somewhat matching the bold new design of the cylindrical Mac Pro, the new AirPort base stations introduced by Apple yesterday are tower-shaped.

Unlike the Mac Pro, these are square-ish and sport rounded corners, just like the Mac mini and the Apple TV.

Looks aside, the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations are just as redesigned on the inside. Both products sport three-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology with a maximum data rate of 1.3Gbps, and include powerful radios and a six-element beam-forming antenna array for range and performance.

Tim Capsules come with 2TB or 3TB hard drives and are available today through the Apple online store for $299 / €299 and $399 / €399, respectively. AirPort Extreme is also available today starting at $199 / €199.
