Winner of Spring 2012 Parents' Choice Award, “Weird But True” by National Geographic Society is a free iOS app that dishes out interesting facts about the world around us in a fun way.

For example, did you know that girls have more taste buds than boys do? Probably not. Weird But True also says that gorillas burp when they’re happy and that horses run on their toes.

The latter strange fact is cited by Apple in highlighting the app on Twitter to drive downloads for one of the best educational apps on iTunes.

National Geographic has filled the app with cool facts and trivia that promises to engage kids and parents alike for hours. Version 1.2 has the adverts removed and some bugs fixed.

You can play with it on your iPhone or iPad as long as you have iOS 4.0 installed.
