iOS is included along OS X for the sake of the argument

Horace Dediu, with marketing intelligence firm Asymco, has rolled out a new analysis looking at the reasons why the Mac is still growing and now consists of 74% portable devices.

Dediu observes that the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines are “still largely unmatched and have a near monopoly in their target price.”

“The Mac’s average selling price has remained remarkably steady for three years,” he writes.

However, the analyst says that it may be relevant to note that the iPad and the Mac both outgrew the PC market together. In this respect, if we’re to take OS X versus Windows, the growth rates were 27.7% versus 2.5%.

“If iOS is included along OS X, Apple grew its ‘computer’ shipments at a rate of 99%,” Dediu shows, complete with a nifty chart that illustrates the growth rates for Windows, Mac and Apple as a combined OS. See his full analysis here.
