Retry installing without any other Thunderbolt/USB devices connected

Thanks to a recent update from Apple, Boot Camp (the OS X utility that enables you to install Windows on your Mac) can now install Windows 8 on your Apple computer. But some users have reported issues while attempting to do this.

In certain circumstances, when you try to install Windows 8 on a Mac, Boot Camp will churn out this error message: “We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one.”

This alert appears during a Microsoft Windows 8 installation “if any Thunderbolt or USB storage devices--other than the USB media that contains a Windows ISO installer--are connected to the computer during the install process,” Apple reveals.

So what you need to do is switch off your Mac and disconnect all Thunderbolt and USB storage devices, but NOT the USB media holding the Windows ISO installer, of course.

The next step, according to Apple, is to “try the installation again.”
