Sandvine, a provider of intelligent broadband network solutions, has released its biannual Internet traffic trends report, noting that Apple has taken a big bite of streaming video.

Entitled “Global Internet Phenomena Report 1H2013,” the report is based on data from a selection of Sandvine’s 200-plus service provider customers in all corners of the world, including North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, as well as Asia-Pacific.

The report notes that “Apple devices (iPads, iPhones, iPods, AppleTVs, and Macs) represent 45% of all audio and video streaming on North American home networks.”

This account bodes well with another finding in the company’s study, which says that tablets and smartphones are responsible for over 20% of all fixed data in North America.

Sandvine also reports that 10 WhatsApp messages are sent and received each day for every subscriber on the network, and that 3% of all messages include a media file, including video.
