Even amidst rumors of nano-SIM cards for the iPhone 5 and public apologies, people still found time to skim through Apple's Maiden, N.C. design plans.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Apple's design plans on file with Catawba County mention a 21,030-square-foot (1953-square-meter) “tactical” data center where clusters of servers will be stored in 11 rooms.

The center will be a standalone metal building with a concrete pad. It will be a fitting addition to a campus that already houses the world’s largest private fuel-cell installation and solar farm.

Curiously, the security measures are described as very tight, especially for a site that already ranks high in that regard. An 8-foot-high chain-link security fence and “man trap” security doors at either end (will force a person to be cleared to go through an additional second door before entering the building space) are the ones that stood out most.
