For the past few days, some rumors have been making the rounds regarding two acquisitions by Apple with a focus on improving its mapping and note-taking technologies.

“We’re hearing that both companies have been bought by Apple, though both acquisitions are indeed months old,” AllThingsD says, reinforcing a 9to5mac report regarding the company’s acquisition of BroadMap and Catch.

The WSJ-owned blog clarified in an update that Apple only acquired the team and technology behind BroadMap, leaving the company intact.

The Mac maker confirmed the acquisitions with its usual statement, saying, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

BroadMap provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools and services, as well as Digital Mapping Data Products and Location Intelligence. Catch allows users to create text, photo, and voice notes.
