Apple is erecting a new retail outlet just a block away from its existing Palo Alto store using trademark glass-stone-and-steel in a 15,000 square foot location.
Plans for the new “prototype” store were reportedly filed earlier this month. Palo Alto planning manager Steven Turner said: "It's a very unique building."
The store will have a glass roof and facade that will allow natural light to flow in, and the basement and rear mezzanine will provide office space and storage, the plans say.
It’s a $3.15 million project described as a "new prototype" and a "commons for (Apple's) community to gather."
In a prepared statement for the press, Apple said "Our Palo Alto store was one of our first retail stores when we opened it nearly a decade ago and it's been incredibly popular. We are planning a beautiful new store just a few steps away, building on everything we've learned from our customers in Palo Alto and around the world.”
