A security flaw in Adobe’s Flash Player has prompted Apple to update the web plug-in blocking mechanism and disable all versions prior to 12.0.0.44, which Adobe released yesterday.

The Cupertino giant states, “Due to security issues in older versions, Apple has updated the web plug-in blocking mechanism to disable all versions prior to Flash Player 12.0.0.44.”

That means that, if you have an older version of Flash, your browser will pop out an error saying that your version of Flash Player doesn’t have all its security updates and has been blocked. To continue using Flash, users will be prompted to download an updated version from Adobe’s site.

Apple outlines these steps for Safari users.

1. Click “Download Flash…” and Safari will open the Adobe Flash Player installer website. 2. Click the “Download now” button to download the latest Adobe Flash Player installer. 3. Open the downloaded disk image. 4. Open the installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
