Staffer spotted riding his Public M3 Mixte bike on campus

It’s been known for a while that Apple employees have access to a shared bike program, car-share vehicles, and even intercampus shuttles to travel between buildings. But few people have ever seen the bikes in real life.

That’s because “Apple squirrels its bikes away in parking garages where employees must badge-in to use them,” according to Wired, whose staffers have been able to spot one in the wild and take the pictures.

That’s one of the older models above, according to the report. Specifically, it’s a three-speed Public M3 Mixte bike painted baby blue. Most of the Apple bikes today are reportedly painted MacBook-grey.

Apple reveals in its facilities report that “within the first two months after the launch of the shared bike program in July 2011, over 2,000 employees registered with the program.”

Today more than 4,000 Apple staffers participate in the program, making more than 6,500 trips every month. Which isn’t much, but at least it’s something towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
