KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new research note based on his usual checks with Apple’s supply chain in the Far East. According to his findings, the next-generation iPhone will be equipped with an improved fingerprint sensor.

A reputable analyst with a solid track record, Ming-Chi Kuo today reveals in an investor note that the Touch ID sensor on the next-generation iPhone will be more responsive and reliable.

Expected to launch in the third quarter of 2015, the iPhone 6S - as the media refers to it - “will be equipped with an upgraded Touch ID module, with which Apple (US) intends to offer a better and safer Apple Pay user experience with reduced reading error,” Kuo wrote. KGI Securities has raised its estimate on Touch ID module shipments this year.

Apple hasn’t said a word about the upcoming iPhone, but if history is any indication, the new model will look exactly the same as the iPhone 6 and will sport modestly upgraded hardware, such as a slightly faster processor, and perhaps better cameras. Another change might occur in the storage department, given that the 16GB option is no longer sufficient for customers’ needs.

The iPhone 6S is expected to launch in the September-October period, in accordance with Apple’s annual refresh cycle.
