Despite what some people might tell you – like “the iPad is just a big iPhone” – the reality is that Apple’s tablet serves an unlimited number of purposes. There’s an app for just about anything these days, and that includes making awesome music right from the comfort of your couch.

Thanks to today’s portable computers, including our smartphones and our tablets, we can play with things other than games when we’re bored. Artistic types can download drawing apps, create masterpieces in a matter of minutes, and have them published to their favorite art site in seconds. The same goes for shooting video or recording music.

Such is the case of Japanese YouTuber oodairago, who puts the iPad to the best use we’ve seen in months. Using a drummer app similar to Apple’s GarageBand but apparently more complex, the dude riffs to Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit like he’s the band’s drummer himself. Perhaps even better, considering the limitations of the iDevice.

The guy has an amazing track record too. He’s done a whopping 40 covers, including one of X Japan’s “Silent Jealousy,” which features insane percussion.

Embedded below is the guy’s performance for Nirvana’s track, but I encourage you to see him at work in other recordings as well.
