So, you’ve taken the plunge and now you want to get out, preferably to a dry towel. Not to worry. Even though Apple says you can’t downgrade your iOS firmware, you can revert to iOS 6 from your adventurous swim in iOS 7 waters.

It’s true that you generally can’t downgrade to an older version of iOS, but when it comes to versions that are currently in circulation (such as iOS 6), you can.

iOS 7 is not for the masses, but only for developers (at the moment). Whether or not you’re registered with Apple is your business. I’m here to tell you how to get back to safety, not to judge you for breaking the rules with your curiosity.

Without further ado, here’s the big guide for reverting to iOS 6 using iTunes on your Mac or PC.

Step 1: Download iOS 6 IPSW Step 2: Restore to it using iTunes

That’s it!

Note that the only backup you’ll be able to load back on your device will be an iOS 6 backup. Anything you saved under iOS 7 stays under iOS 7.
