Haswell-based computers seem to be the most affected

Complaints are beginning to emerge about a potentially widespread issue with sound under OS X Mavericks, the latest Mac OS revision from Apple.

Some customers have taken to Apple’s forums to complain that their Macs no longer output sound when waking up from sleep. Not the customers, the computers.

It appears that only Haswell-based devices are affected, but it’s still not clear whether or not this issue is widespread. The complaints are fairly consistent with each other, but there’s only a handful of people reporting this issue (compared to the sheer number of Mac users out there).

Apple is known to be testing an incremental OS X 10.9.1 update for Mavericks customers, addressing similar bugs. For example, a new build of Mail 7.0 is slated to arrive with OS X 10.9.1 as Apple (with the help of its customers) has found numerous issues with the software.
