IM client still supports OS X 10.6, developers squash bugs in latest beta

Popular instant messaging client Adium has reached version 1.5.9 Beta 3, a minor update which only targets brave users who don’t mind using unstable builds for the sake of reporting bugs.

If that’s you, I’m happy to report that Adium 1.5.9 Beta 3 fixes an issue that causes hangs when encoding a message, as well as a crash on OS X 10.6 introduced in 1.5.9 Beta 2.

You’ll notice that the development team behind Adium is clinging to compatibility with Snow Leopard, despite Apple having released three more versions of its operating system in the interim.

No surprise there. Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) still makes for a good percentage of the Adium install base. It’s like the Windows XP of Macintosh.

If you haven’t used the app yet, you can download Adium (including stable and beta versions) from our website and test out its features today.
