AOL Inc. has released an updated version of AIM, the company’s instant messaging application that lets you stay in touch with people and groups on AIM, Facebook and Google Talk.

AIM also lets you start or join a group chat, share images and voice messages (along with your location), and even pick up a conversation where you left off when you switch devices.

According to the release notes for AIM 5.1.1, the developers have managed to fix an issue where conversation histories were not being saved for some chats, as well as a problem where some conversations were being mistakenly marked as read.

Some users have also reported an issue where confirming email after registration ended in error. AOL has fixed those too. AIM is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later.

It probably wouldn’t hurt their sales if they upgraded the graphics in the app to support the iPhone 5. Just a thought.
