On January 9, 2007, visionary genius Steve Jobs announced the very first iPhone model to an ecstatic crowd at Macworld, a popular trade show that still holds events to this day.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone to the public on January 9, 2007, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

After a successful live demonstration of the phone’s abilities, including a prank call to Starbucks on behalf of the naughty visionary, Apple deployed the two initial models, a 4 GB version priced at $499 (€367) and an 8 GB model which sold for $599 / €441.

The device went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007, to hundreds of customers lined up outside the company’s iconic retail stores. Because of the hype generated by the phone’s launch, the media dubbed the device the “Jesus phone.”

This year’s iPhone refresh will mark the introduction of the eighth generation of smartphones from Apple.
