“Insanely more new traffic” than the jailbreaks before it, says Cydia founder

Cydia founder Jay Freeman (aka saurik) has released some crazy numbers regarding visits coming from iOS 6 devices jailbroken with evasi0n, the latest jailbreak from a new team of hackers dubbed the evad3rs.

Speaking to Forbes this weekend, Freeman said his alternative app store for hacked devices had received hits from 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads, and 400,000 iPod touch players running a jailbroken iOS 6.

That’s roughly seven million iDevices hacked with evasi0n. Freeman said all these figures were recorded in just four days since the initial release of the jailbreak tool. Evasi0n has seen two updates so far, the latest of which fixes a time-zone bug and disables OTA updates.

Freeman says that evasi0n has brought Cydia “insanely more new traffic” than the jailbreaks before it.

He said, “Smart phones have become more and more popular, but they’ve maintained a closed experience that makes it difficult for people to get what they want. Therefore people have needed to turn to jailbreaking to fill the gap.”
