(RED) campaign to feature "fan-favorite apps"

As part of its annual (RED) initiative, Apple has announced a partnership with a total of 25 high-profile developers to sell their apps with exclusive new content, including in-app purchases, that will constitute revenue to be used as a donation to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

Monday, December 1 (World AIDS Day 2014) will see Apple donating a large sum of money to the Global Fund. Apple suggests that most of that cash will be raised with the help of 25 developers and their “fan-favorite” apps that are participating in the (RED) campaign.

According to the official announcement on Sunday, November 23, “Every time a customer purchases a participating (PRODUCT)RED app or an exclusive In-App Purchase, all proceeds will go to the Global Fund.”

Some of these apps are part of well-known franchises, such as Angry Birds, FIFA, Sims, and others. The full list of apps and the (RED)-oriented content in each of them is available below the fold.

On Friday, November 28, US residents who purchase “select products” will be able to receive a special edition (RED) iTunes gift card. The Cupertino company will donate a percentage to the Global Fund for each gift card distributed. Apple has yet to confirm what those select products are, but we’re pretty sure they will include iPads and Macs, hopefully the iPhone as well.
