Expect some big headliners to regain some of their popularity when the Apple wearable debuts this year

The Apple Watch is coming, and for anyone who still thinks there won’t be much activity on its small display, all I have to say is: “think different.”

While you may not be able to play Call of Duty on a screen as small as the one fitted on the Apple Watch, there are still a great number of puzzlers that one could see wreaking havoc on the wearable.

One game I most definitely see picking up some new Steam on the Apple Watch is 2048. An App Store sensation for a brief period of time in 2014, the Ketchapp-developed title would make perfect sense on the wrist-worn computer.

It came to me as I was reading that NimbleBit had announced a game called Letterpad for the Apple Watch. It’s a word puzzle game that puts a grid of letters on the screen and compels you to come up with words that relate to a given topic. It looks strikingly-similar to 2048 (albeit probably plays very differently).

My two cents: expect an App Store for this device. It’s too early to tell how other games will work on the Apple Watch, but if there is one platform that makes it easy to let your imagination run wild, it’s iOS. Now, if anyone had the source code to Flappy Bird...
