A 14-year-old girl from California named Gianna Chien has made an important discovery that might save the lives of numerous iPad owners who also happen to have a pacemaker implanted in their chest.

A pacemaker is a small defibrillator implanted in the chest of a person who suffers from heart disease. Without the device, many people would die.

Gianna Chien, a 14-year-old girl who is the daughter of a physician, showed off a neat discovery at a science fair, Bloomberg reports.

Gianna showed that if a person who has a pacemaker implanted falls asleep with an iPad on his / her chest, that person risks to die.

Apparently the magnets in the Smart Cover that Apple sells to iPad users can “accidentally turn off” the miniature defibrillator.

A high school freshman in Stockton, California, Gianna is convinced people with heart problems should be a lot more careful while using iPads.

As such, she will be presenting her findings at a doctors’ convention in Denver where 8,000 physicians will be attending. Imagine how proud her father is right now.

“I definitely think people should be aware. That’s why I’m presenting the study,” she said.
