Academy Award-winner Alex Gibney plans to debut his latest documentary, “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine,” as part of the SXSW lineup for 2015.

According to the synopsis, the film takes viewers from Jobs’ garage to zen temples in Japan, and ultimately “the CEO's office of the world's richest company, exploring how Jobs’ life and work shaped our relationship with the computer.”

Gibney promises it to be both provocative and startling, making it more than just a re-told story about the iconic Apple boss. The film will premiere next month in Austin, Texas.

Executive Producers include for CNN Films, Vinnie Malhotra, Amy Entelis, Gaby Darbyshire, Stacey Offman, and Amy Entelis, while Viva Van Loock is a co-producer alongside Gibney. The film’s musical score is authored Will Bates.

This will be the third high-profile cinematic effort to describe key moments of the life of Apple’s visionary leader, after Mark Hulme’s JOBS starring Ashton Kutcher, and ahead of Aaron Sorkin’s hotly anticipated biopic which is currently shooting its first scenes.

Secured by Universal, the Sorkin-penned JOBS biopic promises far more than the one starring Kutcher, but the lack of resemblance between the late Apple CEO and Michael Fassbender – cast in the leading role after a lot of casting hassle – may have already sealed the fate of this movie as well.

We therefore put much more faith in a two-hour documentary that will at least show us the real Jobs, albeit in very familiar circumstances for those of us observing Apple up close.
